This HP iPAQ 114 is the perfect 'classic' PDA unit, without GPS or phone to complicate things. Neat and compact and well-designed, it slips easily into a shirt pocket and includes everything you need to run the Roberts PDA version. The screen is full-size for a PDA (3.5") and very clear. The speaker output is modest, but you can attach a small extension speaker (see below) through a mini-jack plug. The Notepad has a voice recording facility that can be used to make a basic recording of a bird sound.
The processor is relatively fast for a PDA, and there is enough memory to run most programs. The SD-card slot (for the card on which we supply the program) is for a standard 'full-size' SD-card. No problem there. The unit also includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections. You can use Bluetooth to link to your cell-phone and browse the internet or download your e-mails, or link to an external GPS to log your sightings or run mapping software. The "Today" screen (that's the desktop on a PDA) has some nice features that include monitoring the power and memory, and adjusting the screen brightness.
Other functions and programs that come standard are things like Internet Explorer, E-mail, Word, Excel and Powerpoint, a Calendar, Calculator, Contacts, Tasks and Notepad, Windows Media Player (for playing MP3s), a photo and video viewer, and Active Sync for connecting to your PC.
A great value-for-money unit. - Guy Gibbon.
